Some of my beliefs and values are...

Profitability is not optional – You are in business for many reasons and one very important one is to make a profit. Profit is a good thing. It is by supplying your clients with a quality product or service that good long-term profits are made. The level of profit that you make is a measure of the benefits that you bring to the world.

Companies can and should be great places to work. Sure you are in business to make a profit, but if you and your employees dread coming to work every day because of the way the business is managed, you are going to have serious productivity problems. A workplace can be a fulfilling and satisfying experience.

Your business should be there to serve you not for you to serve it. It is good that you enjoy working in your business but that is not all there is to life. Your business should enhance your life by providing the money and the freedom to fulfill your dreams.

Constant growth is a prerequisite for a fulfilled life. If we are not growing we are dying and hence it is important to be learning new skills and acquiring new knowledge. Any investment you make in yourself is the best investment you can make.

“You will be the same person in five years time as you are today, except for the books you read and the people you meet. ”Charlie Tremendous Jones”

A favourite poem

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit -
Rest, if you must, but don't quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor's cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out---
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Life

At the young age of 40 something I have stopped counting the passage of time and decided that “the best is yet to come”. I consider myself to be privileged and grateful for all that I have done in the past and all that I will have and do in the future.

I firmly believe that it order for each of us to experience the most from life it is necessary to keep growing our business and at the same time to grow ourselves. When we become bogged down in the day to day running of a business it is easy to forget why we get out of bed in the morning.

To have an enjoyable life.

I am fortunate enough to have a lovely and successful wife and two equally lovely teenage daughters along with all that entails. We even have two female guinea pigs so I fully understand the problems of juggling business and everyday life.

I am a keen squash player who came to the game rather late in life and is now trying to make up lost ground.

My favourite time of day is very early on a summer morning when the peace of the world can be experienced while enjoying a good book as the sun warms up.

Wishing you every success for the future.

Stuart Lockley
